Description:

From 32nd Carolina Blues Festival Website:

The longest-running blues festival in the Southeastern United States returns Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20, 2018 to Greensboro's newest venue, LeBauer Park.

The Carolina Blues Festival will have international, national, regional, and local blues acts on the docket for a weekend of blues, rain or shine! We are partnering this year with Greensboro Bound: A Literary Festival and Second Harvest Food Bank to shed light on literacy and Hunger in our Communities. The literary festival is May 18 to 20 in downtown venues, including the Greensboro Cultural Center, Central Library and Greensboro History Museum that surround LeBauer Park. Second Harvest will set up food donation sites in our PBPS Blues and Food Marketplace, which will be on Davie Street and is Free and Open to the Public.

The 70-plus expected authors, poets and spoken-word artists include Lee Smith, Daniel Wallace, John T. Edge, Nikki Giovanni and Kevin Powers.

In addition to the Carolina Blues Festival and Greensboro Bound: A Literary Festival at LeBauer Park, the Literary Festival will present a Book and Blues event on the night of May 19 at Greensboro Project Space, 219 W. Lewis St. Authors Emily D. Edwards, PhD will present her book, Bars, Blues, and Booze: Stories from the Drinkhouse, a contemporary blues book which has several Piedmont Blues men and women's stories about the blues. Also, Eddie Huffman, will present his book, John Prine: In Spite of Himself, which traces the long arc of Prine's musical career, which led paradoxically not to stardom but to a rich and varied career writing songs that other people have made famous.
