There will be plenty of fireworks this weekend in Castalia and Rocky Mount.

Thousands of area residents will converge on Castalia this Saturday for the towns annual Fourth of July celebration, the biggest Independence Day event in Nash County.

The event will begin with the eighth annual 4th of July Car Show, which will be open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The car show will be at the Castalia Volunteer Fire Company at the intersection of N.C. 58 and Lancaster Store Road.

A DJ will be playing oldies music during the show. Awards will be given for Best in Show, Best of Class, and Top 25 vehicles. All vehicles in the show must be classic or vintage of at least 25 years old.

Cars may be registered for the show up until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, and all vehicles are welcome to participate in the parade.

A craft show and sale, as well as food vendors, will be in operation from 9 a.m. until dark. There will be a wide variety of craft items and food on hand.

The big patriotic parade begins at 2 p.m., and several thousand people will line both sides of the road to watch homemade floats, fire trucks clowns, beauty queens, and much more.
