Annual Waterfront Art Show Returns for 34th Year

Celebrating its 34th year, The New World Festival of the Arts will be held on Wednesday, August 12th and Thursday, August 13th on the waterfront in downtown Manteo.

The show is free and open to the public. It will be open on Wednesday from 10am-5pm and on Thursday from 10am-4:30pm. A shuttle bus located at the College of The Albemarles Roanoke Island Campus on Highway 64 will be available to provide transportation to the Manteo Waterfront area. The free parking and free shuttle service is being provided by Dare County.

The festival originated as an event sponsored by the Town of Manteo and funded by a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council. It was originally co-chaired by the late Claire Grieves and Edward Greene. Greene assumed full leadership until passing it on to the Dare County Arts Council this year.

The two day festival is open to artists from throughout the country. This juried show will exhibit original works from 75 artists from throughout the east coast. Over a dozen artists are new to the show this year and are extremely excited to be a part of such a unique and established Festival. Exhibitors include watercolors, oil & acrylic, drawings, photography, jewelry, sculpture, and pottery. The Festival provides artists and opportunity to display and sell their creative work and compete for awards.

The New World Festival of the Arts is a family oriented outdoor show for spectators of all ages. The Festival provides awareness of the current trends in the visual arts while acquainting visitors with the historic town of Manteo. This once a year show coupled with so many other artistic and cultural events makes Roanoke Island a very special place in the hearts of its residents and the many visitors who come and visit the island every year.
