We hope you are enjoying the beautiful summer season at Shakori Hills, the mimosa is in bloom and the garden green and abundantthe heat hangs heavy during the day and the peepers provide the evening soundtrack. Though in the midst of full summer it's hard to think about it's end, remember to mark your calendars now for this year's Hoppin' John Fiddlers' Convention.

This September will bring more varied children's contests, a new Appalachian-Style TEAM Clogging Competition, more workshops and the same great showcases, dances and children's activities. And if you've ever been to Hoppin' John, you know that the best parts are happening around the campfire or in the spur of the moment and cannot be scheduled!

The annual hoppin' john cook-off competition is always a hit with chefs and festival-goers. Once again, we are offering free Saturday admission for anyone who would like to compete.

While it's true that the roots of Shakori Hills lie in old-time music, we're making a special shout-out to incorporate more bluegrass into the convention! HEY YOU BLUEGRASSERS -- come on out! We have some great prizes and thus far, the bluegrass competitions have had few competitors. Okay, well, we still love our old-time, but let's add some variation, shall we?
