Description:

From Village Square Art & Craft Show Website:

Everyone loves an art and craft show, and is it any wonder? They are places where color and creativity meet up with talent, skill and originality. Throw in some good food and mountain music, and you have the makings of a memorable experience.

You will find it all at the Village Square Art & Craft Show in the cool mountain town of Highlands, NC.

The show features only local and regional artisans. Sponsored by the Macon County Art Association, there are many fine art originals and prints to choose from. You will also find jewelry, pottery, weaving, metalwork, woodwork and other high quality crafts for the home and garden.

This will be our 9th year, and the shows continue to grow. One of the most popular artists in the shows is the remarkable Weaverville painter Marcus Thomas, who is a quadriplegic. Also the master blacksmith Wesley Angel who fashions wrought iron gates and home/garden accessories. Highlands own Patrick Taylor always wows people with his pottery and animal facejugs. Skip Staab makes both pottery and twig furniture. Lee Byers of Highlands creates beautiful jewelry out of leather and pearls. With 70 vendors in the shows, you will be sure to find something special.

The show is held in downtown Highlands at Kelsey-Hutchinson Park and neighboring Village Square, a block from Main Street. If you have trouble finding it, complain to the town, because they won't let us put out signs in town! But if you can find the Catholic Church or Macon Bank, you'll find the show. Please note that these shows are no longer on the holiday weekends due to a decision by our town board in June 2012.

A complete menu of food and drinks are available at Fresser's Eatery in the Village Square, and in the park Howard Lockamy will dish up hand-squeezed lemonade and the best boiled peanuts you ever ate (and my fave, Cajun boiled peanuts), as well as iced tea and fruit cobbler with ice cream. Patti Cakes will be painting faces, so bring the kids.

Show hours are Saturday and Sunday 10a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be live music from 11 to 3 both days.
