Presents the Second Annual, Funtastic, BOLD-FACED LIARS SHOWDOWN Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast 131 South Main Street Laurinburg, North Carolina SATURDAY, JANUARY 23, 2010 Liars Showdown: 2 - 5 pm 7:00 9:00 pm Awards, WinningLiar performance and MICHAEL RENO HARRELL STORYTELLING CONCERT If You Have Mastered the Art of Spinning a Tall Tale You Could be the Next Big Bold-Faced LIAR! _____________________________________________________________________________________ The three Bold-Faced Liars Showdown winners will be chosen by our professional judges, including our featured storyteller, Michael Reno Harrell. As a special treat the first 15 registrants will have lunch with Michael Reno Harrell. Contest Rules 1. All boasts, lies, and tall tales can be original, or told with permission from source. 2. Stories should last 3-7 minutes. 3. Please dress appropriately for a family audience. 4. Prepare for a family audience. Vulgar or off-color words will result in immediate disqualification. Please submit your application to: The Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast P.O. Box 2154 Laurinburg, NC 28353-2154 The Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast, Inc. BOLD-FACED LIARS SHOWDOWN APPLICATION FORM Stories must be 3 7 minutes and must be "tall tales". Stories must be suitable for a family audience. No profanity or off-color content will be accepted. Judging criteria is: Technique- delivery, confidence, general stagecraft; Story development- good development of the tale in the time available; Originality- new material or fresh handling of a familiar yarn, and Effectiveness- in judges opinion, taking audience response into consideration. The three judges will score each of the categories on a scale of 1 to 10 with a maximum of 40 points. Final scores will not be given to contestants. The decision of the judges will be final. The judges will confer at the end of the contest to decide the 3 top finalists from the afternoon competition. The first, second and third place winners will receive awards and cash prizes at the beginning of Michael Reno Harrells evening concert. The winning liar will open the concert by telling the winning lie. The presentations will be recorded and will be the property of the Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast, Inc. All competitors will receive a Certificate of Participation. There is no cost to be a contestant in the Bold-Faced Liars Showdown. All contestants will be admitted free of charge to the Michael Reno Harrell Storytelling Concert.
